Whimsy and Drama: Georges Chakra

Lebonese designer Georges Chakra was initially drawn to interior design. After two years of studies, he realized that his true love and passion was in fashion. So he went off to Canada to pursue a fashion degree at the Canadian Fashion Academy. His aesthetic is one that is consumed by color and whimsy and flow and drama. His gowns command attention. He has been presenting two collections at Paris Fashion Week since 2002. Here are my favorite dresses from his Spring/Summer 2009 Bridal collection. You can see his entire bridal collection on his web site. For more on his evening wear collection, check out the Designer Spotlight on Chakra.

The Fabulous Elie Saab

There is so much beauty in the world. Some of it exists in the showroom of Elie Saab. These dresses are drop dead gorgeous. I love dresses that have a sexy flow. Any one of these dresses would bring your wedding to a screeching halt (in a good way). Images via Style.com

Best of 2008: Designer of the Year (Fantasy) - Sharon Bowen

The Bridal Wishlist's pick for Designer of the Year in the Fantasy category is Sharon Bowen. Bowen's designs had unique silhouettes, unexpected ruffles, adorned with feathers, or the like. This talented British fashion designer was educated in Paris and it is so apparent. Her styling is very French and has that Parisian flair. But she is a Brit, through and through. Her gowns are stunning. Her collections are a must see. See it all here.

Best of 2008: Designer of the Year (Glamour) - Giambattista Valli

The Bridal Wishlist's pick for Designer of the Year in the Glamour category is French designer (by way of Italy) Giambattista Valli. He put glamour back into wedding dresses. I especially love that he isn't a bridal designer. But does he get it or what? His dresses are just gorgeous. See his entire collection here.

Best of 2008: Designer of the Year (Traditional) - Le spose di Gio

The Bridal Wishlist's pick for Designer of the Year in the Traditional category is Le spose di Gio. Beautiful sleek lines and lots of lace make these dresses the mark of wondrous bridal tradition. Mark Ingram's Bridal Atelier in NYC carries these Italian works of art. Visit their web site to view this amazing collection of dresses. These are my favorites.
